World’s best woman footballer is asked if she can ‘twerk’ and her response says it all
They’ve had an award for the world’s best male footballers for some time now and this year they thought they’d do something to level the playing field by having a Ballon d’Or for the world’s best woman footballer as well.
Except it didn’t go entirely to plan after the inaugural winner Ada Hegerberg was on stage collecting her award when the DJ, a Frenchman called Martin Solveig, asked if she ‘knew how to twerk’.
Her response was absolutely devastating (and brilliant).
Martin Solveig really asked Ada Hegerberg, the first ever Ballon D'Or winner, to twerk. The absolute disrespect bruh. pic.twitter.com/Mtc5DBjS7a

Back of the net.
Here’s what Andy Murray made of it on Instagram.
“Another example of the ridiculous sexism that still exists in sport.
“To everyone who thinks people are overreacting and it was just a joke… it wasn’t. I’ve been involved in sport my whole life and the level of sexism is unreal.”
And here’s a few things other people were saying about it.
This is disgusting. Imagine having just been given the best award for your craft/job/passion, and this is the question you’re asked?! I’m so pissed and sorry Ada. You deserve better. We all do! https://t.co/UkRFFeLdk7

Absolute trash: French DJ Martin Solveig asks Ada Hegerberg to twerk after receiving the first women's Ballon d'Or award. (Love her response, though.) This is the crap female athletes deal with on a daily basis around the world.pic.twitter.com/y2TLe3v4u9

Footnote: the DJ later apologised, but if he isn’t asked to twerk every time he appears in public, something’s wrong.
I explained to @AdaStolsmo the buzz and she told me she understood it was a joke. Nevertheless my apologies to anyone who may have been offended. Most importantly congratulations to Ada pic.twitter.com/DATdg0TfQk

Oh, and there’s also this.
This video of Ada Hegerberg is worth your time. This is why she is the first female winner of the Ballon D'Or. Sadly the video of the goon asking her to twerk will be watched more than this. pic.twitter.com/HxNTDrivrz

And this.
Here's the English portion of Ada Hegerberg's speech, because a jackass should never be allowed the last word: pic.twitter.com/Gtlp3ADwyi
