This reply to a man who sent his picture to Playgirl may be the most brutal rejection of all time

You may be aware that there is a magazine by the name of Playgirl, which features – as you can probably guess – naked and semi-naked men. It also contains articles, ads and all the usual stuff that’s in these things – including a nude centrefold. Back in the 80s, one young highschooler decided to submit his photo with a view to taking up that coveted centrefold spot.

This is the reply he received.

In case you can’t see all that, these are the edited highlights.

“Thank you very much for submitting your name and photograph, but I regret to inform you that we will be unable to use your body as our September centrefold.”

“On a scale of 0 – 10 your body was rated -2 by a panel of women ranging in age from 60 to 75 years. We tried to assemble a panel in the 25 to 35 age bracket, but we were unable to get them to stop laughing long enough to reach a decision.”

“Should the taste of American women ever change so drastically that bodies like yours would be appropriate in our magazine we will be sure to let you know.”

As if this weren’t scarring enough, the letter is signed I.M. Arunt and there’s more …

“P.S. We do commend you for your unusual pose. Were you injured in a football game. Or do you ride a bicycle a lot?”

The letter was shared on Reddit by u/HisNameIsToby, who insists that the hapless rejectee is their dad. Now, we can’t guarantee that it’s genuine, but we figure that to work on a magazine of that kind would require a good sense of humour, so you never know. Either way, it’s good for a laugh.

We kind of want to see what he submitted, but are also a little relieved that we can’t. Perhaps he may yet get his call-up.

It seems there’s a precedent for this kind of scathing reply.

Finally, we have to agree with this comment. The mental images!
