The whole internet is lolling at Waitrose’s so-called student ‘starter kit’
Well, we say lolling. That or just getting mildly pissed off by this ‘student storecupboard’ put out by Waitrose, a ‘starter kit for the fledgling cook about to fly the nest’.
It’s not all off the scale but look at it. Just … look at it.

And in case that’s tricky to read …
1. Marigold Swiss Vegetable Bouillon Powder (£2/150g)
Hearty soups and stews are an efficient way to pack in plenty of nutrient dense vegetables. Start your base with bouillon powder which is free from artificial preservatives and flavourings but packed with flavour.
2. Aspall Organic Cyder Vinegar (£1.70/350ml)
A delicious dressing needs the right ratio of sweet and sharp. Lemon may be standard, but apple cider vinegar doesn’t take up fridge space and won’t go off.
3. Waitrose Cooks’ Ingredients Organic Italian Seasoning (£1.89/22g)
Having a herb blend cuts the faff of buying multiple little jars that can all too often collect dust. Sprinkle over cheesy jacket potatoes or add to bolognese.
4. Belazu Rose Harissa (£4.35/170g)
This versatile little jar goes a long and very tasty way. Mix with olive oil for a speedy, spicy marinade for fish and meat or stir a dollop into yoghurt.
5. Clearspring Organic Tamari Soya Sauce (£3.15/150ml)
Best known for adding a moreish saltiness to stir-fries, this umami-packed gluten-free sauce will also lend oomph to tomato sauce-based dishes and elevate your meals from bland to brilliant

Imagine being proper excited to move into your uni halls only to find yourself living with someone and their Waitrose starter kit who’s got the potential to become more of a cunt than Jamie Oliver https://t.co/ypTwIffiWs

This is completely ridiculous. Some students may want to try their hand at creative cooking, but these are #NotEssentials. How about Sunflower oil, salt & pepper, garlic bulb and tomato puree?

Mine went with baked beans, noodles and coco pops (supermarket value type ones, not the real thing) I’m not sure any of my lot would recognise harissa if it punched them in the face! 😂
