This guide to youth slang compiled by the police is the most cringeworthy thing you’ll see today
Police officers deal with all walks of society and whatever helps them build bridges of understanding has got to be good, right? Well, a photo has emerged of a list of slang words and phrases supposedly aimed at helping the thin blue line understand the youth of today – and it’s pure Alan Partridge.
In case that’s not clear, it says:
1. Beef-ting fam = starting a [sic] argument
2. Peng = good/attractive
3. Bruv = Brother/sibling/friend
4. Blud (s’appnin) = Brother; associate
5. Wagwan = Greeting; “Hello, how are you?”
6. Roadman = Teenager who involves themselves in
– smoking weed
– No education
– Puffa jacket + man bag
– Act “hard” on a bike
7. Ting – sexual relations (they ting)
8. Feds/popo = police
9. GOAT = Greatest of all time
10. FOMO = Fear of missing out
11. Stormzy = Not the weather
–> Rapper from Croydon
12. Swear down = Tell the truth
Surrey Police shared the picture on their Facebook page, with this comment:
“To engage with our younger R&B residents we are rolling out ‘Youth Language Training’ to our officers 🚓

#famalamadingdong

Just to make it clear, this is totally a joke! 😂 The photo is from our friends at Lancashire Police, we don’t want to give them FOMO or anything!”
The picture certainly improved their engagement on Facebook, though not necessarily with the younger members of society.
It also attracted the wrong kind of engagement.
Someone even translated the reading of the rights for them, should they wish to be sure that young people would understand what was happening.
Yeah, we can’t see it catching on, either.
