Keeley Hawes just delivered the most brutal Daily Mail takedown you’ll see this week
We already liked Keeley Hawes, who you are probably watching in BBC1’s rather excellent drama, Bodyguard.
But now we love her after she did this. First up, here’s the Daily Mail story about her preparation for the show.
And just in case you can’t be bothered to click on the link – please, don’t bother – here’s what the paper had to say.
‘She’s the hottest thing on television, and enjoyed a steamy on-screen encounter with her much younger co-star last week.
But Bodyguard star Keeley Hawes, 42, below, put a lot of hard graft into looking her best for the new BBC1 role, where she plays a fictional Home Secretary alongside hunky Richard Madden, 32.
I hear she lost about a stone for the part, putting herself on an alkaline diet and an exercise regime based on the methods espoused by US fitness guru Tracey Anderson.
My source on the TV show’s set said: ‘This is a really sexy role for her, she wanted to get in character and look amazing.’
And who wouldn’t with a night with Mr Madden on offer?’
And this is what the actress had to say in response, as highlighted by @DMReporter online.
Um, no, I didn’t. #whowritesthisshite?#whatthefuckisanalkalinediet? https://t.co/u1QiBZvkLM

Not a syllable wasted. And here are a few of our favourite replies.
It’s the Mail. If they told me it was nighttime I’d have to look outside myself to check.

I like that they describe it as a ‘sexy’ role. *spends episode being shot at*

This, exactly. It’s almost as if… they have to find something to shame an “older woman”.
“What will work?” they muse. “Ah… Her weight. That always puts women in their place.” The DM is pathetic.— Cass Hunter (@C_HunterAuthor) September 2, 2018
Calling it out, this is why you are one of my faves, not just a brilliant actor but an even better woman and human

As to that question about the ‘alkaline diet’ …
Sucking batteries until you don’t feel hungry anymore?

Oh, and this might be our favourite.
Can’t wait for the “are women swearing too much on Twitter” story.
