This spooky story will give you the creeps – and there’s a postscript
Interesting, right? Although that was the extent of Richard’s anecdotes, someone read the thread and chipped in.
Huh. Was clicked this thread thinking about my own spooky childhood experience (also a sceptic and atheist now). Used to live near a patch of scrubland that had once been a railway cutting, now filled in. Once, on the way to school, I distinctly heard a steam train.

I didn’t think much of it, but some weeks or months later, heard it again. Mentioned it to my mum, and it turned out she’d heard it several times too. The only working train line was the other side of town and only had electrics on it. I can’t explain it.

But here’s the kicker. I grew up in Radcliffe too. At the top end, on the Bolton side. The scrubland in your pictures looks very familiar. Obviously I don’t know exactly where you lived, but if it’s not the same patch of land, it’s extremely close.

I grew up in this area. I could see the disused railway across the scrubland from the back of the house. pic.twitter.com/C7FVUbap3v

It’s the same one. I was Stanley Rd, top-right of that map. Could see the scrubland and pylons from my bedroom window.
