Russell Crowe had the perfect comeback when someone had a go at Robin Hood
It’s been 8 years since Russell Crowe starred as Robin Hood but some people are still trying to work out what accent he had in it.
Like this chap, for instance, who shared his confusion on Twitter.
Of all the great showbizz mysteries that remain unsolved …. possibly the greatest ….what the fuck is Russell Crowes accent in Robin Hood ?

Except we need wonder no more after the man himself took time to respond. In some style, it turns out.
A child born in Barnsley, on his father’s death, taken to France at age 6, travels across Europe to the Middle East on foot, fights in the third crusade for Richard I, alongside men from all parts of Britain, Ireland and France & finally returns to England a man in his 40’s.

Got it?
Fair enough x

Serves me right for being a smart arse

And the actor wasn’t quite finished.
You always do a cracking English accent, much harder to master a regional dialect let alone factor in other influences. I heard Michael Parkinson speaking today and you definitely cracked the Barnsley accent. Wonder what your Geordie is like ? 😂

Michael was the principal influence. At the time he was the only person I knew from Barnsley and he certainly had travelled. He kindly let me spend some hours in his company and record his voice

As a matter of fact, as a Pom (albeit a Cockney Pom) I thought your accent was perfect….as was Cate Blanchet’s. The movie was first rate and I liked the way you (kind of) worked Magna Carta into the story. Probably the best, most serious, Robin Hood movie I’ve seen.

We were working the Forrest Charter into the story.
A lesser known agreement between the crown and the common man , simultaneous to the Magna Carta which is essentially between the crown and the lords.— Russell Crowe (@russellcrowe) August 19, 2018
Which all reminds us of the brilliant moment Radio 4’s Mark Lawson suggested Crowe’s Robin Hood sounded a bit Irish. His response was one of our favourite bits of radio ever.
Here’s what people made of the Twitter exchange online.
Just when I'm about to delete this hellsite it has to go & remind me why it's great pic.twitter.com/o5t2MzQOHf

Now, can we get Kevin Costner to explain whatever the hell his accent was in Prince of Thieves?

the *fair enough* is just perfect
