Nadine Dorries bigged up Boris Johnson and this takedown was just ruthless
The latest in an occasional series we like to call ‘Nadine Dorries said …’, here’s the Tory MP giving her considered take on Boris Johnson.
It started when her fellow Conservative MP Heidi Allen said this.
About as suitable to be PM as he was Foreign Secretary https://t.co/wNCcuBS6MO
— Heidi Allen (@heidiallen75) August 6, 2018
And Dorries tweeted this in response.
Boris who was elected as Mayor twice? Delivered the Olympics, Boris bikes, kept Londoners safe, banished bendy buses, reinvigorated the city, that Boris? You have achieved what, exactly? https://t.co/wu0zWsORmX
— Nadine Dorries (@NadineDorries) August 6, 2018
And, as usual, the replies were very satisfying indeed but none were better than this chap.
1.
Oh, Nadine….
You really have to stop your Boris Johnson obsession, it is quite deluded.
Let’s have a look at your claims: pic.twitter.com/Y9JJtlPo0n

2.
Boris delivered the Olympics?
Lord Coe and the British Olympic Association did that, and Ken Livingstone was in charge when the bid went in and was won.
Boris was simply fortunate enough to be in office while they were on. https://t.co/XuNJu5EHL3

3.
Boris banished bendy buses?
He wasted millions on new Routemaster buses.
Conventional double-decker: £190,000
Boris’s vanity buses: £354,500 https://t.co/TkVklYMLEd
— Damon Evans (@damocrat) August 7, 2018
4.
Boris bikes?
They were Ken Livingstone’s idea.https://t.co/ibzqeP2Odf
— Damon Evans (@damocrat) August 7, 2018
5.
Boris kept Londoners safe?
He closed 10 fire stations and laid off 552 firefighters.
Bragged about increased police numbers, but there were nearly 2.5k fewer police officers under Boris.
2011 London riots were on his watch. https://t.co/fjaDCbbIFN
— Damon Evans (@damocrat) August 7, 2018
6.
Boris reinvigorated the city?
Blair was responsible, from 1997, after decades of Tory underinvestment. He created the GLA and mayoral role in 2000.
Livingstone introduced most of the policies which reinvigorated London. https://t.co/FF5cqxHCp0

But, while we’re on the subject of Boris, let’s have a look at some of the £940m he wasted on vanity projects:
Garden Bridge £52m
New Routemaster £321.6m
Emirates Air Line cable car £24m
Water cannon £323,000
Estuary airport plan £5.2m
Etc. Etc. https://t.co/8jmYZAJUdZ— Damon Evans (@damocrat) August 7, 2018
Bravo, sir. He wasn’t the only one to reply of course, so here are our other favourite responses online.
Ken commissioned the bikes. The Olympics would have happened without him. He blew countless millions on unworkable route master busses. Cycle lane plans that didn’t reinvigorate but made the city significantly worse to drive. Had not a single original idea. That Boris? https://t.co/2sWdyT6H9v

aka Boris who spent millions on a shit failed garden bridge, rugby tackled a child, ruined Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe's life, lost £5m given to the Mayor's office to tackle homelessness, built a cable car in the only part of London where there's nothing to see on ground level… https://t.co/w7Rpy1Ej5Q
— Tiernan Douieb (@TiernanDouieb) August 7, 2018
Boris who cut fire services, Boris who oversaw cuts to the police, Boris who brought you those awful toaster oven buses that belch diesel, Boris who wasted millions on a vanity bridge.
Yes, that Boris. https://t.co/YfBhcOnkbs

Olympics: Labour project
Boris bikes: Project set up by Ken
Bendy buses: Switched for an ego project that overheat instead
Safety: Police is funded by central governmentOh and don't forget the Garden Bridge, the Cycle "Superhighways" that were just a strip of blue paint… https://t.co/ihTCJF2yfb

Boris is allowed to compare Muslim women to 'bank robbers' because he banished bendy buses apparently https://t.co/gUMh2P9vjs

Always nice to have an opportunity to thank London for turning Boris from a third rate panel show eccentric into a looming threat. Cheers. https://t.co/wxjF7YPbag

You don't have to agree with her politics to appreciate this tweet. It is some achievement to incorporate so much weapons-grade ignorance in so few characters… https://t.co/wcaJxi0p5S
