Moonpig’s take on the Trump balloon was was made even funnier by the responses
The good people of Moonpig thought they’d have some fun with the giant Donald Trump balloon welcoming the so-called president to London by doing this.
If we make a 100 of these baby #TrumpUKvisit balloons will you buy them? pic.twitter.com/bbBuFftErQ

Bravo! Except not everyone appreciated it and here’s a whole bunch of responses that made it so much funnier than it already was.
No. And I won’t buy from your company again. Thanks.

No. It’s disrespectful to the American president who was democratically elected. Poor idea from Company who ought to stay out of politics

Have you made one of the London Mayor?
Thought not.#BoycottMoonpig— Mark Conroy (@Pixieribs) July 12, 2018
I’ve spent a fair amount on your site….won’t be buying again. Embarrassing & childish behaviour from you.

Must be one of the biggest PR fails in history. You’re losing hundreds of customers by the minute. Ah well you’ll learn the hard way.

Whether it was a harmless joke or an unmitigated PR disaster, fair play to Moonpig which seemed to take it in their stride.
And the good news was that the response, as you’d imagine, wasn’t all bad. Far from it.
It’s made me laugh so much, both the balloon and people’s reaction to it (The ‘I’m boycotting forever’ folks)
That I have decided to buy every greeting card I need from you for the next 12 months. 😁— 🏳️🌈 Rainbow Ali 🏳️🌈💚 (@stillill72) July 12, 2018
Outrageous, I’ll definitely use you in future! I think @nestle have done something similar with their @realDonaldTrump inspired cereal pic.twitter.com/BbTOxQFREu

Not only is the original tweet funny, the angry replies are hilarious! Nice one @MoonpigUK

Superb. Will be using Moonpig from now on. Well done!

One Twitter user, @memattieandi, noticed a problem with people’s priorities,
“These people getting flustered over a balloon but not that fact their current president is segregating children from their parents 😂😂”
Whether it makes or breaks Moonpig, we can’t help thinking the balloon joke was blown out of proportion.
