Americans didn’t get this joke because their eggs are always in the same place
Here’s something from @jackbern23 that will ring true with anyone who’s ever tried to buy eggs in a supermarket. So most of us, then.
EGGS: Tee hee! You may look, fair customer, but you will never find me! Am I next to the bread? Or perchance by the milk?
ME: *goes to the milk*
EGGS: No! I'm by the binliners, inexplicably!
ME: Goddammit
ME: Now I'm by the coffee! All hail Eggs, The Scoundrel of the Supermarket!— Jack Bernhardt (@jackbern23) July 8, 2018
How much did it resonate with people? This much.
In my waitrose they are between the chocolates and the tinned fruit. Obviously.

Eggs: Wherever you find me eventually (if you ever do), you can be sure I’ll be in a different place next week. #bitterexperience

Once made FOUR ROUNDS in a Lidl before finding the bastards next to the flour 🙁

‘Excuse me, I can’t find the eggs?’ ‘Eggs isle’ ‘Seems a bit harsh’

Except there was one group of people for whom it made no sense whatsoever.
The best replies to this tweet have been Americans whose eggs stay constantly in the fridge section of the supermarket and therefore think I am an idiot man who thinks eggs are talking to me pic.twitter.com/Wsh04QJ7la

Maybe this was the explanation.
Presumably because in America you have to refrigerate eggs and so random placement becomes much harder.

Could be, technically you don’t have to refrigerate eggs until you’ve gotten them cold. Like at farmers markets, if they never see refrigeration they have a different “shelf life”. But petty much very supermarket does refrigerate so mostly irrelevant

And it’s not the only difference.
not in the UK we don’t (also, the eggs are a pink/brown)

What colour are they in America?!
— Jo (@muckyboatlady) July 8, 2018
White (mostly)https://t.co/HVGAySzwUJ

To conclude …
This is dumb to me?… 16 year supermarket store manager, the eggs are in the dairy lol.
— Ridic (@Ridic_316) July 8, 2018
Well can you please tell all the other supermarket managers, because I think dairy is where they should be, but they never are (in the UK at least).
