The BBC did this ahead of England’s World Cup opener and it’s one of the odder things they’ve ever done
The BBC usually has an uncanny knack of getting it just right with their World Cup coverage. Not just the games, but how they build up the tension beforehand and their inevitably sad (but epic) montages when England get knocked out.
And then … and then there’s this effort, which they put out today ahead of England’s opening World Cup game against Tunisia on Monday.

This is the weirdest thing I’ve ever seen. It’s like someone making wedding photos of them and an ex on photoshop.

Some people could see what they were doing (kind of).
Everyone's missing a painfully obvious point: they made this BECAUSE THEY KNOW THEY'LL NEVER HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO MAKE IT FOR REAL. It's an admission of defeat. That's the joke. It isn't hard.
