One Virgin Trains employee has been handling the #PrideMonth haters like a pro

To celebrate June being #PrideMonth, Virgin Trains has expressed (pun intended) its support for the LGBTQ+ community, and a few miserable types aren’t happy. Luckily, one of Virgin’s social media team has been more than capable of coping with the negativity.

They made this announcement on Facebook:

“To celebrate #PrideMonth, we’ve changed our Social Media logos to show our support. We’re sponsoring York Pride on 9th June and recently launched our #Trainbow livery. We believe everyone should be able to love who they want, and be who they truly are.”

Among hundreds of positive responses, they got this cynical remark and ‘KM’ batted it back.

“Well I suppose when you’re just about to have your franchise taken away from you, what better way to react than with a pointless publicity stunt to show how hip and modern you are,”

“Yes, supporting the rights of people in the LGBTQ+ community is just a publicity stunt, and not because we’re decent human beings Rory with a large and diverse workforce,’ replied Virgin social media operative ‘KM’.”

Then someone lobbed in a suggestion that they should shift their focus, and KM smashed it out of the park.

“I should have thought you ought to be concentrating on running your train service,”

“We can support basic human rights for all while running our train service David. It’s called multi-tasking. ^KM”

It didn’t stop there, but KM had an answer for this, too.

“Will you be sponsoring straight pride or single dads day?”

“If either of those were real holidays, then perhaps. We do have a lot of straight, single dads in our industry. ^KM.”

But the best shutdown of all time must surely be this.

“Absolutely nothing against our gay community but I do find it bizarre as to why it should be celebrated. After all if it wasn’t for the straight people none of us would be hear [sic]. isn’t that worth celebrating?”

“When your love is illegal in multiple countries and you’ve been beaten to death for holding hands with your partner in the street, then we can talk about celebrating Straight Pride Steven. ^KM.”

KM, there, derailing the haters.
