This farewell from Maplin went viral because it’s sad but very funny
High street legend Maplin is closing down and this sign in one of its shop windows went viral because it’s sad but very funny.
Let’s hear it for the staff in this branch of Maplin, still able to crack funnies ahead of their store’s impending closure … pic.twitter.com/gb143xx8gc

It also struck a chord with anyone who’s ever worked in a shop that’s closing down (maybe not the bit about scart leads, though).
Fair play to maplin these FAQ's are spot on, having been in the same situation in the past, these are the constant questions you get in retail when SHTF pic.twitter.com/iEcWDvu7Uf

Some people had a few extra points to add. Not everyone agreed with this one.
12. Significantly overpriced.

But it’s hard to argue with this one.
13. We wouldn’t be in this position if you buggers didn’t just use us as a showroom for Amazon

It brought the memories flooding back for some people …
As a former employee of maplin’s, 02ish, I was once asked for ‘a green cable’, “what do you need it to do?” I ask, “I don’t know” was the reply, “me mate Sandra has a green cable and that works.” That’s the customer base.

Current employee of Maplin. Can confirm the customer base hasn't shifted much from this.

I will really miss Maplins. They always seem to have what I want and the staff were very knowledgeable and helpful.

Modern Britain – I never went to Maplin. I’ve never bought anything from a Maplin store. Had they stayed open, I would still never have gone. However, I am outraged and devastated that they’re closing and am going to miss them terribly.
