Funniest story of the day because it’s literally comedy gold
This from today’s Daily Telegraph, spotted by Harry Wallop on Twitter.

And just in case it’s tricky to read.
“It is every metal detectorist’s dream to unearth a hoard of gold coins, so when Paul Adams and Andy Sampson found 54 in a field they were delighted.
“However, that had not realised that the coins they hoped were worth £250,000 came from a Suffolk field that had been a film location for the BBC comedy Detectorists and the coins were props.
‘Now I want to look at them and cry,’ Mr Sampson said.”
We’re sure he saw the funny side, no?
Here’s what writer and star Mackenzie Crook had to say.
“I intended to go back and find any strays but was horrified to hear that Paul and Andy got there first. As a detectors myself, I was gutted that I contributed to their disappointment.”
That’s pretty meta..
