First Boris Johnson stepped in to defend Toby Young, now Michael Gove.

With both those heavy hitters behind him, the former Spectator columnist really MUST be the right man to lead the government’s new university watchdog, right?

Yes – his educational track record qualifies him. But values matter too, in public servants. And unfortunately his long back-catalogue of obnoxious hateful and misogynistic public statements disqualify him (and taint the Tories who back him).
