‘Bring me terror’ – pranksters turn Eric Morcambe’s statue into a into a crazed clown
Pranksters turned the statue of the comedian on the promenade in Morecambe into a terrifying clown on Saturday night, reports the Lancashire Post.

Apprently dressing up the statue has become a Morcambe tradition.
I don't know, but as a piece of public art, he has been adopted by the town completely and is dressed up for Easter and Christmas etc. This

The statue, by artist Graham Ibbeson, was unveiled by the Queen in 1999 to commemorate the comedian in his hometown – the clown outfit was gone by Sunday morning, but not before giving Twitter nightmares.
