Suffolk UKIP candidate proposes local traffic solutions… and asteroid mining

Many ambitious campaign promises are made before general elections –
but South Suffolk UKIP candidate Aidan Powlesland wants the UK to mine the asteroid belt with a fleet of nano probes. He also wants a massive flying aircraft carrier, like S.H.I.E.L.D has in The Avengers.

Here’s a larger view – £100 million for an interstellar colony ship sounds about right.

He told the East Anglian Daily Times that he wants the government to use £1.2 billion as a prize, for companies that can profitably mine the asteroid belt for water and/or platinum, as long as they do so by 2026. We’d be lucky if we can decide what colour UK passports will be by then.

Naturally there was some pisstaking of his ambitious space-goals.
