The most excruciating interview you’ll hear this election (probably)
So shadow home secretary Diane Abbott was on Nick Ferrari’s LBC show today when she was asked how much it would cost to fulfil the Labour party’s pledge to recruit 10,000 police officers.
If you think it starts bad, you ain’t heard nothing yet.
Abbott: “If we recruit the 10,000 policemen and women over a four year period we believe it will be about £300,000.”
Ferrari: “£300,000? What you paying them?”
Abbott: “Sorry, ahah, no I mean, sorry, they will cost … they will, it will cost … erm, about … about £80 million.”
Which is still only £8,000 each.
Later Abbott says she is going to recruit 250,000 policemen (and women). That’s a lot of coppers.
Ferrari: “Has this been thought through?
Abbott: “Of course it’s been thought through.”
