Daily Mail ‘Crush the Saboteurs’ front page: ‘chilling, fascistic, deranged’. And what Lenin said in 1918
We’d call it peak Daily Mail, but it feels more serious than that.

The Daily Hate lived up to its name today, after Theresa May’s surprise decision to call a general election on 8 June, labelling anyone who disagreed with the Tories’ “hard Brexit” a “saboteur”.
Here’s a flavour of the furious backlash it prompted on Twitter.
So now you’re a saboteur that needs to be crushed if you didn’t vote for Brexit (Daily Mail). What kind of country have we become? #Remain

This is not democratic tradition dissent and debate of which we are proud -Britain deserves a better future than this chilling tone offers.. https://t.co/haSvhNCLHx

Stalin killed millions by labeling people saboteurs and enemies of the people. Literally the same words as the Mail. Chilling. pic.twitter.com/QIBPrL2HtH

"Crush the Saboteurs". If you wrote that as a headline in a dystopian satire, you'd be worried you were laying it on too thick.

In 1906 the Daily Mail coined the term ‘Suffragette’.
In 2017 they’ve christened the resistance ‘Saboteurs’.
Let’s get to it.

And here’s what the Sun had to say.
That Daily Mail headline is awful, but the Sun is even more chilling: did it forget a Labour MP was murdered during the last national vote? pic.twitter.com/Xjl0FLuZrD

The last time “Crush the Saboteurs” was heard, it came from Lenin at the Communist party purges in 1918 – history repeats itself….

I am starting to think the Daily Mail might not be as balanced and open hearted as we thought.

Only 50 days (or so) ’til election day, folks!
Am really hoping this election can be held without the levels of aggression or violence we have seen in the recent referendums… #democracy pic.twitter.com/wHSoJBCnNV
