The Crystal Maze is coming back. Here’s nine of the funniest fails

Cult ’90s gameshow The Crystal Maze is coming back to Channel 4 with The IT Crowd star Richard Ayoade taking over the presenting role from the great Richard O’Brien.

Each week five contestants will do battle through the Aztec, Industrial, Futuristic and Medieval zones for the chance to grab some bits of foil in a giant see-through golf ball.

Much fun it was too, most of it to do with O’Brien’s hilarious commentary and comedy dancing.

But the thing that made it most enjoyable was the total crapness of some of the contestants. Here are a few of our favourites.

1. “Have you got it? No?”

2. “It’s U3. U3! Can you see U3?”

3. “Never mind, it’s exciting.”

4 “Well, it’s novel. I have to say it’s very novel.”

5. “Oh dear.”

6. “The third tap!”

7. “Is that Chris Bonnington coming down here?”

8. “Oh, that’s silly!”

9. “You mustn’t jump, you could do some serious damage to yourself.”

The show returned last year for a one-off charity special presented by Stephen Merchant.
