More Novelty Twitter Accounts Than People In 5 Years

Tweet News: Twitter CEO Dick Costolo has warned that in five years time there will be more novelty accounts on the social networking site than actual people in the world.

“If current trends continue there will be over 8 billion novelty Twitter accounts by 2018,” said Costolo.

“Nearly all of them will have been abandoned after a couple of tweets as they were set up by some drunk who thought it would be funny to to register user names like @MadMon, then tweet quotes from Mad Men translated into Jamaican patois. Now with the arrival of the Royal baby things are just going to get much, much, worse.“

Costolo says this will make it almost impossible for real people to get a Twitter account so they can talk about the weather, what they had for lunch, or how shit tonight’s TV was.

“It’s frighteningly easy to set up a novelty account,” said one anonymous user.

“I thought it would be fun to register the name @bumbumhorse, set my avatar as a picture of a horse’s bum and simply write the word ‘bum’ in every tweet. After doing this a few times I got bored and moved on – setting up the @bumbumhen account instead. Hens are just so much funnier!”
