David Blaine to stick fork into plug socket

Magic News: US performance artist David Blaine is to stick a fork into a live electrical socket as part of his latest feat of endurance.

“I have wanted to do this for years,” the 39-year-old said at a launch event last night. “But my Mom would never let me. But this Friday I will show the world she was wrong.”

The magician’s past endurance stunts include sitting in a Perspex box for 44 days, standing on a pillar in for 35 hours and watching every episode of Friends back-to-back.

Blaine will stick the fork into the plug socket in front of a live internet audience on Friday. He will use no special equipment apart from a nose plug, in order to avoid the smell of his own burning flesh.

If he survives the event, Blaine has hinted at what his next death-defying feat will be. “I don’t want to give too much away,” said Blaine. “But it involves lying face down in the middle of a busy road.”
