Bank of England’s economic growth predictions ‘most sarcastic yet’

Economy News: Financial experts have congratulated The Bank of England for delivering the most sarcastic growth predictions yet, during its quarterly Inflation Report yesterday.

Bank Governor Sir Mervyn King was singled out by critics for giving a ‘breathtaking’ delivery of the figures, in a performance that some hailed as ‘setting bold new standards in sarcasm’.

“His vocal indications during the report were perfect,” said Financial Performance critic Quentin Grapes. “The low pitch, his slow talking – all of it blanketed in such deep layers of irony and understatement. It was simply delicious.”

“When he masterfully told us that ‘Britons will have to be patient while the bank works to re-balance the UK economy’ the audience was in stitches.”

Aside from King’s bravado performance during the report, Bank of England supporting advisers were also commended for keeping a straight face.

After hearing all the positive reviews of the performance, the Bank is said to be looking forward to delivering the next quarterly Inflation Report. “Maybe next time we’ll all dress up as clowns!” said a spokesman.
