Child labour found working on Minecraft

Games News: The video games industry was left reeling in shock today, after it was revealed the game Minecraft uses children to build large parts of the simulated landscape.

Minecraft – a massive, open-world survival adventure game that lets users build with raw materials you mine yourself – was found to have used child labour in a number of pixel-sweatshops across Asia, building trees and mining various minerals from subterranean caverns in the game.

“We weren’t even given ergonomic seats to sit on,” said one child labourer rescued by the Anti Cyber Labour campaign group from a Minecraft factory in Bangladesh. “For 19 hours a day we sat on crates tapping in the computer code to generate large parts of the Minecraft world.”

“This is why the graphics in Minecraft look so blocky – because they were created by an army of toddlers.”
