‘I am no longer manager of News Corp canteen’

Lunch News: James Murdoch has stepped down as the manager of News Corp’s canteen, following months of pressure to relinquish the role following allegations of weak tea and limp sandwiches.

In a letter read to people eating lunch in the canteen today, Murdoch said he feared the allegations could drag down the rest of the staff in the kitchen, making the atmosphere during service ‘unbearable’.

He also went on to add, “Today’s special is the lasagna. I hear it’s quite delicious.”

His resignation comes ahead of the publication of a report into lunch practices at the News of the World, where Murdoch controversially claimed he had ‘no prior knowledge’ that sandwiches past their sell-by date were routinely sold.

Mr Murdoch and his father Rupert, the chairman of News Corp,  are said to be ‘actively exploring options’ for which business James can run next. It is widely speculated that he will take over a burger van in the car park of a Halfords in Basingstoke.
