Theresa May – tougher on Big Ben than she was on Donald Trump

Theresa May’s back from her three week holiday and it’s like she’s never been away.

The so-called prime minister was right back in the thick of it, leaving no-one in any doubt what she thought of Big Ben going silent for four years for urgent restoration work.

“Of course we want to ensure people’s safety at work but it can’t be right for Big Ben to be silent for four years.

“And I hope that the Speaker, as the chairman of the House of Commons commission, will look into this urgently so that we can ensure that we can continue to hear Big Ben through those four years.”

But what about, er, the other big issue of the day, Donald Trump’s insane press conference where he defended White Supremacist marchers and took aim at the “very, very violent … alt-left”?

She said there was ““no equivalence” between the protesters and far-right marchers but stopped short of criticising Trump, or even mentioning his name.

“I think it is important for all those in positions of responsibility to condemn far right views wherever we hear them.”
