Radio station mistakes Annie Lennox for unknown singer, tells her she has ‘potential’

Here’s what happened when a radio station PR got in touch with an up and coming singer who they thought had ‘potential’.

The PR, for a local radio station in Los Angeles, said they would put their single forward to ‘Glenn, our programme director’ who might even be able to help out with their expenses if that was of interest.

The singer’s name? Annie Lennox. Total worldwide sales: more than 80 million, winner of eight Brit awards and named one of the 100 greatest singers of all time by Rolling Stone.

The former Eurythmics star shared the letter on Twitter, joking: “I think I’m in with a chance??!!!”

Here’s what the radio PR, called Kylie, said:

“I came across your music on line and really like what I heard! I’m the New Music Coordinator for a station that has over 100,000 unique listeners each month.

“I find artists who I think have potential and get them in rotation on our station. If you’d like please send over the MP3 for your latest single. I’ll forward it to Glenn our program director here at *** to see if he’s interested in putting it in rotation.”

“Also, what sort of support campaign do you have going for your single (press, video, licensing, etc)? I only ask because we are connected to an artist development firm that can also get you onto 150 radio stations worldwide and provide support for press, video, retail and licensing.”

“The best part is, if they really like your music, they’ll cover all of hte marketing expenses. You can check them out at *****. Please let them know Kylie referred you and you should be in.”

The responses of some of the people on Twitter are almost as funny.

This one’s for Kylie.
