Chinese man attempts to win back ex-girlfriend with 99 watermelons
Sad news from Northern China – a student’s attempt to woo back his ex-girlfriend by publicly offering her 99 watermelons and a cake was thwarted after security guards on campus ordered the crowds to disperse, reports the South China Morning Post.
Sadly for the student, his ex never showed up and after 10 minutes the security guards stepped in. Onlookers got free watermelons though, so there is an upside.
None of the reports explained why the man thought his offer of a large quantity of watermelons would win back his former girlfriend.
Presumably the number 99 is considered lucky – as in 2014 a Chinese programmer spent two years’ salary on 99 iPhone 6s, arranged them in a heart and asked his girlfriend to marry him.
She said no.
