BBC presenter laughs in face of Tory MP who promises ‘strong and stable’ government

BBC presenter Simon McCoy just couldn’t take it anymore after Tory MP Alan Mak said the Conservatives were looking to form a “strong and stable” government.

“I”m sorry to laugh,” said McCoy. “Is this a speech you’ve all been given to read out?”

Here’s our favourite bit of the exchange.

SM: “I just wonder whether you have all realised that if you don’t give the prime minister your backing you could all be out of a job at the end of the year because there could be another election?”

AM: “Our job is to make sure that we form a strong and stable government, to make sure that we deliver to people …”

SM: “Are you really still saying strong and stable?”

AM: “Our job is to provide certainty, there has been a tumultuous election…”

SM: [laughing] “I’m sorry to laugh but you know we are in a country where if you talked to anyone at the weekend, people are quite worried. Three words you would not have heard are strong, stable and certainty, those are three things that we don’t have.”

Simon McCoy – telling it like it is to the nation.

And just in case you think you recognise him, you do. He’s the BBC presenter who once mistook a ream of paper for his iPad, and carried on broadcasting regardless.
