Labour wins council election because UKIP candidate got the name of their party wrong

A Labour councillor in Suffolk has won an election by default, after the opposition was disqualified for writing ‘UKIP’ instead of ‘United Kingdom Independence Party’.

Cambridge News reports that Under strict electoral rules the candidate must write out the full name of their party and not use an acronym – the UKIP candidate was disqualified leading to an uncontested win for Labour’s Liz Smith in the Haverhill North ward.

It’s not the first time UKIP have struggled with paperwork – back in 2012 during the London elections an “internal error” meant their candidates for the London Assembly were listed as “Fresh Choice for London”, rather than UKIP.

At least time they got a bit of sympathy… oh wait.
