23-stone goalkeeper eats pie during team’s FA Cup final defeat

He’s not nicknamed “roly poly goalie” for nothing.

Bookmakers offered odds of 8-1 that Sutton reserve keeper Wayne Shaw would be spotted eating a pie during his team’s FA Cup fifth round replay against Arsenal.

He duly obliged, but denied he or his teammates would make any money from the stunt. That hasn’t stopped the Football Association and Gambling Commission from launching an investigation, though.

It’s entirely unrelated, of course, that the betting company that offered the odds of 8-1 were also last night sponsors of … Sutton United.

It was a meat and potato pie. Arsenal won 2-0.
