New Guardian app locates nearest readers in case you need to urgently talk about property prices
The Guardian has launched a new augmented reality app that helps you find the nearest reader of the newspaper in case you have a desperate urge to discuss house prices, local schools, or Yotam Ottolenghi recipes.
“For too long Guardian readers have struggled to identify each other in the real world using only a series of subtle hand gestures, code words and raised eyebrows,” said the Guardian’s head of technology Sebastian Hëllef.
In the past some Guardian readers accidentally confused Telegraph readers with their own kind, and violent incidents reportedly occurred after a frank exchange of views about men’s beige chinos – something which Hëllef hopes to end with the app.
“Using the incredible power of augmented reality Guardian readers can now find each other with a simple app on their phone, which will save both time and stress when asking someone their opinion of what hummus to buy in Waitrose, or which type of Prosecco is the most ethical.”
