An Australian complained about losing his 2G services and got the best reply possible

Australian Nokia owner, Oly Gordon, was gutted when he realised he’d have to give up his beloved phone once the 2G services are discontinued on December 1st. He sent an emotional Facebook message to service provider Telstra.

He wrote:

“G’Day Telstra,
I hear your shutting down your 2G services on December 1st? Frankly I’m upset.

I’ve had my Nokia 3315 for 13 years, and it’s still going strong. The battery currently lasts for 3 days – although it used to be over a week. It has outlasted 4 SIM cards, countless drops, knocks and falls from extended heights. My top score on Snake 2 is 1781 and I have managed to completely fill up the screen with said snake twice.

I understand you haven’t sold a 2G phone in several years, probably because they’re indestructible and there is no need to replace it like a smart phone ever couple of years.

Anyway, just wanted to share this with you. I’m happy to have ‘beaten’ the phone game but disappointed it’s game over.

I can appreciate the bittersweet moment of the 2G closure. 13 years is a long time to still be going, so long in fact, it has outlasted any girlfriend I have ever had. However, it has been said that
even Chuck Norris could not break the Nokia 3315 and I am sure when you dropped it from the said extended heights that the ground beneath broke.

Your achievements on Snake are legendary and I hope that you master the next mobile game you play. On the subjects of games, you are right, you have ‘beaten’ the ‘phone game’ by outlasting a device that people thought was impossible to top. Your in-tact and working Nokia is a reminder of good times and when phone batteries lasted longer than the recovery required after a good night out (drink responsibly).

Technology has rapidly evolved, with devices becoming more advanced, and our customers demanding ever-faster speeds. Most customers have already opted for the better experience provided by our 3G and 4G technologies on Australia’s largest and most reliable mobile network.
