A US governor used the film ‘Jaws’ as an analogy for the presidential race and it was spectacularly inaccurate

Former Republican presidential hopeful, Governor Mike Huckabee, was being interviewed on Fox News about his thoughts on Donald Trump when he picked an unfortunate analogy to illustrate a point.  He claimed that the presidential race was very like Steven Spielberg’s iconic thriller Jaws, with Hillary Clinton being the shark and Donald Trump being the salty old sea dog and shark hunter, Captain Quint.

Go to 2:44 for the start of his gaffe.

Governor Huckabee‘s bad analogy in full:

“He’s like Captain Quint in the original movie Jaws. He’s vulgar, he’s salty, he might even get drunk …he’s the guy who’s gonna save your butt and save your family. And so at the end of the day, when he kills the shark, you’re happy about it.

Now, Hillary is the shark. She’s gonna eat your boat, she’s gonna have open borders, immigration out the kazoo, and so the choice is do you vote for Captain Quint, who’s gonna save your family, or do you vote for the shark?”

Of course, Fox News presenter Megyn Kelly set him straight, saying “I hate to be the one to tell you this, but Captain Quint got eaten by the shark.”

And, as if that weren’t bad enough, his error came to the attention of Jaws star, Richard Dreyfuss.

That’s the governor’s career in film reviewing over, then.
