The Telegraph has shared an amazing letter that suggests the real reason behind BHS’s market failure:

SIR – I am hardly surprised by the recent struggles of BHS in the marketplace.

Being of a similar build to the late, diminutive Ronnie Corbett, I bought my trousers in BHS’s children’s section for several years. As I have become a little more portly, I asked the assistant recently if I could try on the largest of the youth sizes before making a purchase. The assistant directed me to a brightly painted soldier’s sentry box with saloon-style doors so that mothers could look in.

I returned the garments to the assistant and left, never to return.
