3 pro tips for drinking the BEST COFFEE at home

SPONSORED POST

Ever sipped your morning joe and thought to yourself “this is anarchy”? Ever stared into the black stuff and instead of joy, felt nothing but severe dissatisfaction? You’re not alone and the time for action is now!

1. Fresh = Awesome. Get your coffee fresh

If it’s edible it degrades and coffee’s no exception. Coffee starts getting stale from the moment it’s roasted and gradually loses flavour for every moment it’s exposed to air, becoming more and more bitter.

So the fresher the better and to get the best stuff around you want to look for coffee roasters (most big towns around the UK have one) that can supply you with coffee within 7-10 days of roasting. Supermarkets are no good at this because the coffee they can sell inevitably takes weeks to get to the shelves.

Alternatively you can look at an internet-based coffee roasting and delivery service which will save you all those trips to the roaster. Pact Coffee delivers excellent coffee with a 7-day freshness guarantee everywhere in the UK using letterbox friendly packages (and they’re offering Poke readers a big discount on your first bag- read to the bottom for details.)

2. Light > Dark. It’s all about the light roasts
2-Aissa-Hands-Beans

We seem to be hung up on dark roasts in the UK. Almost all the coffee you buy from supermarkets is darkly roasted (as in roasted to high temperatures) but there’s a reason for that. Roasting dark masks the natural flavours of the coffee beans with a sugary sweetness which lets the supermarket brands use poorer quality beans to start with.

People who are really into their coffee tend to look for coffee suppliers confident enough to do lighter roasts. Their beans tend to be of higher quality and they roast light because they want you to experience the natural tastes of the coffee. And when you get into light roasts you start to see that there’s a world of different tastes in coffee, like there is in wine. A fresh, lightly roasted coffee is out of this world good.
