A Dutchman’s plan to propose to his girlfriend has ended with a crane smashing the roof of a house and forcing the evacuation of two others, reports the BBC.

The man had wanted to surprise his partner by being lowered in front of her bedroom in the town of IJsselstein to sing her a song and pop the question, but the unsecured crane instead toppled into a neighbour’s house.

During the attempt to right it, the crane unfortunately slipped and fell on the house again, reports the Guardian. Thnkfully no-one was hurt.

Despite the fiasco, his girlfriend accepted the marriage proposal, Dutch media reported, and the couple have gone on holiday in Paris.
