Weekends No Longer Adequate, Research Finds

Time News: The 48 hours of freedom most people spend their working lives thinking about is woefully inadequate and needs to be far longer, a new study has found.

“Research indicates that most people are forced to spend their weekends doing banal things, like spending time with family members they don’t like, DIY they don’t want to do or cleaning their homes. People simply have too many boring things to do,” said Professor Keith Potts from the University of St Andrews.

The study interviewed over 15,000 people from across the U.K, nearly all of whom said they spend the weekends guilt-tripped into doing things they didn’t like, or trying so hard not to think about the approaching Monday they got a migraine.

“A majority of people really just want to spend the weekend sitting quietly in a dark room with a wet flannel over their eyes,” said Professor Potts.

“So we suggest the government forces employers to let people do exactly this, by extending the weekend by another 24, if not 48, hours. This will undoubtedly see a drastic drop in the Monday morning murder rate.”
