Meet Nils Olav, Colonel-in-Chief of the Norwegian Royal Guard

This is Sir Nils Olav, Colonel-in-Chief of the Royal Guard – the Norwegian King’s bodyguards and the main infantry unit responsible for the defence of Oslo.

You may have noticed that he’s a penguin. A penguin that lives in Edinburgh Zoo, Scotland and was knighted in 2008. The Norwegian King described Sir Nils as “in every way qualified to receive the honour and dignity of knighthood”. Here he is inspecting the troops.

He even has a statue dedicated to him. We salute you, Sir Nils.
