Shame he doesn’t exercise that wit in his songwriting…

  • Sickeningjar

Not quite so awesome if you consider that no one directly tweeted him.(ie. none of them used his @jamesblunt Twitter handle) the only possible seven aria is that he searches for his own name on Twitter constantly and picks users to reply “wittily” to.

And if you look at it this way, that’s just a bit pathetic.

I’m going on Twitter now. Exclusively to follow James Blunt :)

Absolutely awesome! Go James Blunt. Some of these people sound vile.

Balls of steel James Blunt. Why shouldn’t he search for himself, it’s part of the job. People think they can say anything on the internet, especially to performers. Nice to see this celeb has a good sense of humour and is very, very funny!

  • mmmarshmallow

@Sickeningjar – If you have Social Media Management Software (yes, these things exist), you don’t need to rely on users actually referring to his Twitter handle to find out if your ‘brand’ is being spoken about. Quite often corporations find out about complaints or grievances being aired on social media this way. The software crawls on configured search terms that are public – if the tweets are public, the software crawler will find them.

  • Sparky15756

I won’t say it’s pathetic. He’s giving up his time to read what people think about him, embrace the hatred and give something back. But that’s just my opinion :)

  • thegrinch

Good for James Blunt. He doesn’t have to bother when sad trolls stalk him on twitter but he cares enough to take the time. He sells millions of records – how awful of him to commit such a terrible crime against humanity eh? Get a life you trolling Blunt haters and try insulting mass murderers and elephant poachers and other real people worth hating!

Bore off sickeningjar. Fair play to him.

I preferred seven aria, it makes your point interesting.

    January 1, 2014 at 11:19 am
  • Andrew Keane

He was asking about that on the Graham Norton Show once and he said he does it as a bit of fun. So many more people have this unreasonable hatred for this guy who they don’t even know and apart from this, he stays out of the media. Why shouldn’t he have a little fun?

    Chapeau, Bill Minor.

Jealous bunch O twats.. He’s snarky and funny and burned every one o them! Just because he has a nice accent so many don’t like him.. I personally think he’s awesum and his music.. So good on him!

  • Jon

Sickeningjar, you sound bitter and miserable. I find that highly attractive. I… I… I think I want you.

    January 1, 2014 at 2:18 pm
  • Alex Wilson

I don’t get people who trash talk artists.
You don’t like their shit, fine, you have an interesting new take on their work, re-interpretation is what it’s all about, but most of this is James Blunt taking a little wastes of server space, and fashioning amusing asides from them.
    Digital recycling.

  • Philip Pilf

Nah, this just smacks of ‘woefully insecure’.

    January 1, 2014 at 3:02 pm
  • Sinny

Actually there were direct tweets as well.
So your point is actually unaccurate.

@neu75: My music is written by an finite number of monkeys on two typewriters and an old Amstrad palmtop from the 80′s: the level of wit input is limited.

Like Josh Groban, there’s a hilarious self deprecation that make them endearing. I’d not listen to either of them sing, but if either hosts “Nevermind the Buzzcocks” again, I’ll watch.

    January 1, 2014 at 3:50 pm
  • badass

Even knowing that seven aria, i wouldn’t call it pathetic, who wouldn’t genuinely search themselves if they had that fame, just in this case instead of staying silent he’s retorted ;)

    January 1, 2014 at 4:01 pm
  • Thomas Anderson

Sickeningjar, you are prick! Twitter is all about interaction and the right to reply, would you let people abuse you and not have your say. Despite all the profanity used against him, he never once resorts to it himself. These people obviously don’t have the balls to tweet him directly, they hide behind the anonymity of the internet… a bit like not using your real name to post a comment here…

    January 1, 2014 at 4:30 pm
  • Mapston

The man can sing, play guitar and drive a tank. That’s a powerful combination.

    January 1, 2014 at 5:12 pm
  • Ellie

Well actually, some have used his @ name. I think he’s funny

    January 1, 2014 at 5:59 pm
  • Smartass

Sickeningjar: hear, hear, that’s, well, disturbing at least. Also that there are few tweets from fans that actually likes Blunt and acknowledges he’s not to most liked guy, but instead of showing any level of gratitude, Blunt makes sure that even those fans won’t like him after his tweets.

I mean, sure, if you want to be rude to EVERYONE, but don’t see the point of him trolling, if he really wants to show himself as such a miserable human being.

    January 1, 2014 at 6:34 pm

    Haha brilliant!! :))

    January 1, 2014 at 7:12 pm

Back in the day, people choose their family names based on what they did, so I’m not surprised that he is handing out blunt smackdowns.

Sickeningjar: You should see Ricky Gervais.

    January 1, 2014 at 8:18 pm
  • Wendie Stacey

Why are people spending their lives tweeting hate to others ? Seriously …..its pathetic , childish and they should all get over themselves …..if you dont like an artist or singer …..just dont listen to them .simple .Even for idiots .

    January 1, 2014 at 8:55 pm
  • @judepatch

People who badmouth those more talented than themselves are usually jealous! Therefore, their opinions are of no significance, but I love how James has replied. I’m a fan, but even if I weren’t, I’d still like his cleverness x

    January 1, 2014 at 9:20 pm
  • hhaddow

is he the one who wrote a son about wearing clean jeans (went somthing like ‘I’ve had the same jeans on for three days now…’

    January 1, 2014 at 10:05 pm
  • Ellie

I understand why he would put people down, power to him for that. What I don’t understand is why he’s compared himself to Jesus a couple of times there. I’m not religious but that doesn’t sit well with me for some reason.. maybe because it’s James blunt…..

    January 1, 2014 at 10:36 pm

Bravo Mr. Blunt! He has every right to look up these trolls who do not even have the balls to say these vile things to his face. And guess what? He won hands down.

    January 2, 2014 at 9:58 am
  • Gem

Fair play to him. I think it’s the perfect way to respond to such nasty unnecessary comments. What music you like is a very personal thing, if we all liked the same stuff it would be pretty boring. Just because it might not be to your taste, doesn’t give you an automatic right to make personal attacks.

    January 2, 2014 at 11:07 am
  • Wayne Burgess

Fantastic sense of humour and a great example of how to treat the cowardly little shitbags who hide away and dig and poke at people using a keyboard and very little brains at all. :)

    January 2, 2014 at 11:29 am
  • Liz Udoh

“The man can sing, play guitar and drive a tank. That’s a powerful combination.” – Mapston, exactly what I was thinking… think a lot of people forget about the last bit, they should show just a tad more respect. Besides if I was him I’d borrow a tank and go run their candy-asses over… keep the comebacks coming…

Amazing sense of humor. He was with BearGrylls at SAS. Brilliant and sensible stuff. GO on Blunty!!

Has anyone actually noticed that he seems to have commented on this article as well? Or does everyone just read their own comment..? Anyway, thanks for the good laugh, mr Blunt!

@James Blunt has served his country well. He has learned a great deal from his father too. Also a high ranking member of the forces and also a sharp wit. Military rhetoric has a sting in the tail like a scorpion. He has done more in his service and extremely good PR for the UK than all the trolls out there, sat at their screens, hating the world, because they hate themselves and their own pathetic world. He has more charisma in his smallest hair follicle than those writing their thoughtless bile. Keep going James.

It is disappointing that people have to make such negative comments. “If you don’t have anything nice to say ……”.
Not everyone likes the same music, and to attack a person you don’t know is like bullying ONLY when you have friends you can hide is unlikely you would have the courage face to face, instead of hinding behind a computer.

James, I love your work and your intelligence, unlike some of these ‘drop-kicks’,who either are not very well educated and/or were the school bully!! J from Australia !!

What a shame some people have nothing better to than to criticise a talented singer who has also fought for his country. Good on him for knowing better than taking it personally and rising above the comments and having the last laugh. Keep up the good work James, you are amazing.

James Blunt is absolutely marvelous! “Good bye my lover”, “Carry you home”, “No bravery”, “Heart to heart” and many other songs are some of the best works of art I have ever had the pleasure of listening to. “None of it’s real if you can’t feel the beating of someone’s heart”…
I salute you Captain Blunt. Keep it up!!!!

I was doing OK in therapy, they were gradually weening me of JB’s music but then I read the above and now I’m going to have a sex change, just so I can be a ‘James Blunt’ groupy.

I’m not of a fan on the guys music as its all down to personal taste right? I would never therefore be nasty to him, dumb *insert swear word of choice). Fantastic come backs! Full respect!

    January 3, 2014 at 2:22 am
  • Denise Passby-Spencer

My favourite is number 20. James was on TV and they mentioned how funny and clever that particular response was. I think these people make negative comments just to see what he can come up with! Lol.

    January 3, 2014 at 2:42 am

Why are people commenting about him being a soldier previously? Does that make his music any better? Or worse?

Good on ya James! You tell them.
If they were even 1/8 of the man that you are then at least they would have an outstanding voice, a wonderful wife-to-be, they’d be known worldwide and possibily would have something better with their lives than to run down somebody who is by far a million miles out of their reach!

    Keep the lights burning.

Hahaha! I remember James Blunt from that “beautiful” song a couple(?) of years back… but other than that, nothing. Now I’m definitely a supporter though, great stuff! :)

I have enjoyed, and still enjoy, James Blunt’s first 2 albums. Sad to say I lost track and haven’t followed much since.

It’s great to see this tho, whether I like his music or not, I certainly like this. And I shall go have a listen to the other albums and see if I should add them to my collection also.

I am also pretty appalled that people feel they can just hurl abuse at someone because they don’t happen to like their looks or their music or.. well anything about them really. It’s pretty nasty and small minded, and they should indeed be reminded of that.

    January 3, 2014 at 12:30 pm
  • Lucy

Although I’m not a fan of his music (no I’m not jumping on the ‘I hate James Blunt’ bandwagon) When ever I hear he is going to be interviewed on TV, I always have to watch. He is a genuinely funny guy, very dry sense of humour and very cheeky. If only he’d take up stand up comedy! This talent is wasted on Twitter morons

    January 3, 2014 at 1:19 pm
  • Jacinda

Hilarious! Laughing out loud! Liked JB before – LOVE him now! Sad that uneducated people feel the need to denigrate, but JB seems to have it covered and then some! James will be the first person I “follow” on Twitter!

Respect mate: not my kind of music, but definitely my kind of humour. Thought I detected that when we had that brief “Hmm, he looks like a fellow-musician” eye-flash across that South Kensington restaurant, a couple o’ years or so back. I bet you can party with the best of ‘em!

Well, you can’t please all of t he people all of the time…….. And what do ‘they’ matter, the ones who don’t like James Blunt ? Not one tiny bit. He’s got plenty of fans not to care about the rude, nasty jerks that write hideous crap.

    January 6, 2014 at 7:44 am

I don’t quite get how witty twitter comebacks make his music worth listening to though? It’s rather clear that there are numerous people that think he makes crap music and isn’t that what really matters here, since his claim to fame is indeed music??

your comments are totally nonsensical. Nobody said twitter come backs make his music worth listening to…. and there are clearly people who like his music as well as people who don’t. What points are you making – that some people don’t like him, that therefore his tweets should be dismissed and perhaps his music too? I don’t know of his music so I have no opinion on that. His tweets are very clever regardless of Whether I will like his music or not. Based on his intelligence and humour this James Blunt already gets my admiration Whether he can sing a note or not! Broaden your mind Michael.

I like James Blunt’s music, but I never really paid attention to the man himself until now. This makes me feel uneasy. Yes, people are rude, but some of these are compliments, if strange ones, Like 4,7 and 29. Especially 29. It’s a joke based on his lyrics, but he came back with an insult. That person deserved a high five instead.

Also, his name is not highlighted in most of his tweets, which seems to imply that he has been spending a lot of time searching for his own name so he can smackdown trolls. If I were famous, I admit it would take some willpower not to respond to every hater, but this still makes me wonder if he’s got some insecurities.

@Sally Villarreal, most business or managed twitter accounts use an application that will bring in all mentions of a certain phrase or @ message. He most likely has one of those to keep track of his name being mentioned for marketing purposes.
