Dave’s Top 10 Jokes From The Edinburgh Festival 2013

Comedy channel Dave has announced the results of its annual ‘Funniest Joke of the Fringe’ award as chosen by an expert panel and the public.

Comic Rob Auton has taken the top spot this year, with the following gag:

“I heard a rumour that Cadbury is bringing out an oriental chocolate bar. Could be a Chinese Wispa.”

This is the sixth year Dave has run its Funniest Joke of the Fringe award.

Speaking of his win, Auton says: “I am honoured to receive this award and just pleased that a joke that tackles the serious issue of the invention of a new chocolate bar can be laughed at by the people of Britain.”

The Top 10 Gags

8. “The universe implodes. No matter.” – Liam Williams

9. “I was adopted at birth and have never met my mum. That makes it very difficult to enjoy any lapdance.” – Bobby Mair

10. “The good thing about lending someone your time machine is that you basically get it back immediately.” – Chris Coltrane

After scouring 60 shows at the annual Scottish festival for jokes, judges for TV channel Dave whittled down an estimated 7,200 gags to a shortlist of 30 that were put before a week-long public poll.

Steve North, General Manager of Dave, comments: “Now celebrating its sixth year, Dave’s Funniest Joke of The Fringe continues to highlight the best one-liners coming out of the Fringe. This year’s Top 10 is quick, sharp, witty and clever, and Rob is a very worthy winner.”
