Transformers 4 To Be Shot In Vertical Video

Movie News: In an attempt to appeal to a younger audience, producers of Transformers 4 say the film will be shot in a ‘vertical video’ style as seen on clips shot with the iPhone.

“I’m always looking for ways to make the Transformers franchise seem new and fresh,” said director Michael Bay. “And vertical video seems to be a hit with the kids on YouTube.”

Vertical video occurs when a cameraphone is held vertically instead of horizontally, causing most of the screen to be cropped out.

“When film was first shot in colour they said it was just a gimmick,” said Bay. “In fact, when people first saw moving film of a train coming into a station, the audience ran out of the cinema screaming. That’s want I want for people who see Transformers 4.”

Bay says cinemas will have to project the film through specially adapted projectors onto a screen that is 21 metres high but only 9 metres wide.

“It will be expensive for cinemas to install the new screens,” said Bay. “But that’s the price of progress. Those cinemas unable to show the film in the right format will be provided with blinkers for the audience to wear.”
