Aung San Suu Kyi keen to see if Starbucks is any good

Democracy News: Burma’s pro-democracy leader Aung San Suu Kyi plans to visit Norway and the U.K. this summer, in order to sample a variety of drinks at Starbucks stores in both countries.

It will be her first trip out of Burma in 24 years, as she feared the country’s military rulers would not allow her to return.

“I heard this Starbucks place is good,” said Suu Kyi. “But they’d have to make one hell of a Caramel Macchiato for me to risk exile from my own country.”

The democracy campaigner also plans to take in some of the other sights when she visits London this summer.

“Of course the 2012 Olympics will be a fantastic spectacle,” she said. “And someone told me there’s a massive Westfield shopping centre at Stratford.”

“I’m looking forward to checking out the latest fashions in John Lewis, the contemporary kitchen products from Lakeland and then perhaps go bowling afterwards.”
